There were many benefits and drawbacks of European and Native American interaction. Some of the biggest benefits were from the Colombian Exchange: the trading of plants, animals, and other resources between the hemispheres. Europeans gained things such as potato, sugar, and tobacco, while the Native Americans received horses, pigs, and other animals. With all of this interaction and trade, European diseases such as measles, smallpox, and chickenpox were being exposed to the Native Americans. These diseases wiped out whole tribes. The Europeans also realized they could force these groups of people to work for them. They started learning how to use their weapons to capture them. This created bad tension between the Europeans and Native Americans.
In America, there were three main groups in the colonies: patriots, loyalists, and neutralists. Patriots were people who wanted to break off from the British rule and start their own, free country. Loyalists were people who felt they should remain loyal to Britain and the king. Neutralists were people who were undecided. There were many arguments and conflicts between these people such as the Boston Massacre, where five colonists were killed. The Boston Tea Party is also a very famous rebel against the British, where patriots dumped 18,000 pounds of tea into the Boston harbor.
The start of the Civil War was caused by social, economic, and political factors. It seemed like the north and south were always competing with each other. Economically, it was the industrial north versus the agricultural south. Politically, it was the Union north versus the Confederate south. Socially, it was the free and abolist north versus the non-free south, who wanted slaves. There were so many differences, that eventually compromises didn't work, and war broke out.
